MFI and other lab equipment play a very prominent role in the quality control of plastic products. In industries, material acceptance based on MFI or ash content is one of the major criteria used for manufacturing. The Melt Flow Rate of the specimen is inversely proportional to the molecular weight of the material. The material with a higher MFI, Purity, Viscosity and UTS will be easier to process, but it may lower the other properties of the material such as impact resistance due to the lower molecular weight of the material. An MFI or other test of incoming material is conducted by the industries in order to determine if any degradation has occurred during the transportation process. The composition which builds the strength of the material also helps the manufacturers to introduce necessary changes in the manufacturing process to ensure the best quality of the material.
